The Story Behind SThorn: A Healthy Fizzy Drink Inspired by Nature, Crafted for Refreshment

Picture the moment right before you crack a can open. You already know what’s coming: a jolt, a few good hours, then the drop. Somewhere in the middle of your afternoon, you reach for another one, not because you want to, but because the first one already spent itself.

Millions of people live inside that loop without ever stepping outside it to ask why.

We stepped outside it. And on August 10, what we built steps out into the world too.

Meet SThorn: a sparkling berry drink made from six ingredients, and nothing else. Sea Buckthorn. Amla. Lemon. Himalayan pink salt. Raw sugar. Carbonated water. No caffeine. No taurine. No preservatives. No artificial anything hiding behind a long chemical name.

This is the story of those six ingredients: where they actually come from, why each one earned its place, and why what we refused to put in matters just as much as what we did.

Why We Set Out to Build Something Different like SThorn

Sthorn Sparkling Berry can resting on a rock beside a Himalayan glacial river, with an "Arriving August 10" launch tag.

Walk down any aisle of cans and the formula repeats itself.

It’s a formula that works, in the narrowest sense: it sells. But it also means the can that’s supposed to lift you up spends the rest of the day quietly pulling you back down.

We didn’t want to build a smarter version of that formula. We wanted to walk away from it entirely, and launch something that actually earned its place in your fridge.

So we asked one question and refused to compromise on the answer: what if every ingredient in this can was something we’d be proud to explain to our own families, ingredient by ingredient, without flinching?

That single question ruled out caffeine, taurine, artificial colour, artificial flavour, and every preservative on the standard list.

Whatever survived that filter had to earn its place on its own strength. Nothing was going to hide behind a stimulant to make up for being ordinary.

That’s how Sea Buckthorn Berry found its way into the story first and that’s where the name came from SThorn. Four more ingredients followed, each for a reason strong enough to stand on its own. Together, they became the first can we’ve ever been ready to put our name on.

Around the world, drinks are shifting from sugar and stimulants to real, recognizable ingredients. With India’s appetite for natural, low-sugar carbonated drinks growing rapidly, SThorn is built for this moment

Six Ingredients, Grown and Chosen On Our Own Terms

SThorn wasn’t built around one hero ingredient. All six ingredients were chosen for a specific purpose and included in deliberate amounts: never as fillers.

1. Sea Buckthorn: the ingredient that started everything

High in the Himalayas, along the banks of the Indus, wild Sea Buckthorn grows in conditions that would destroy most plants. It survives temperatures from -40°C to over 40°C without pesticides or fertilisers and has been hand-harvested in Ladakh for generations. (Ladakh Sea Buckthorn)

Naturally rich in vitamin C, E, and one of the world’s few plant sources of Omega-3, 6, 9, and rare Omega-7, Sea Buckthorn was the obvious choice for our first drink. But what truly sets it apart is its origin. This isn’t fruit sourced through a middleman—it’s grown wild along the banks of the Indus and processed in our own facilities in Ladakh. We’re not borrowing the Himalayas as a marketing story; we’ve been building there long before this can exist. (WebMD)

As Ladakh emerges as India’s Sea Buckthorn hub, we’re proud to bring the same locally grown, carefully processed berry to the rest of the country in every can of SThorn. (Ladakh UT Administration)

2. Amla: the superfruit that never left home

While Sea Buckthorn comes from the Himalayas, amla comes from somewhere much closer to home. Long before “superfood” became a buzzword, Indian gooseberry was already a trusted part of households and Ayurveda, where it’s revered as a Rasayana and forms one of the three fruits in Triphala.

Amla is one of the most vitamin-C-dense fruits in the world, which is exactly why it’s in this can. Like our Sea Buckthorn, it’s not sourced through traders; our organic amla is grown and processed on our own farm in Rajasthan, India.

Bringing together a Himalayan berry and a fruit rooted in Indian tradition wasn’t a marketing choice; it was the most natural way to create a drink that reflects everything we stand for.

3. Lemon: the ingredient with the simplest job

Lemon has one job in this drink, and it does that job without needing a longer story: it cuts through the tartness of the two berries and keeps the whole drink tasting bright instead of heavy.

But a simple job doesn’t mean a lower standard. Like our Amla, our lemon isn’t bought in from a trader; it’s grown on our own farm in Rajasthan. Even the ingredient with the least to say for itself had to come from land we work ourselves.

4. Himalayan Pink Salt: a story written in stone, long before it was written in a can

Around 200 million years ago, an ancient sea evaporated, leaving behind mineral-rich salt that was buried beneath layers of rock as the Himalayas formed. Protected from modern pollution for millions of years, this Himalayan pink salt is still hand-mined from those mountains today, and reaches us in its purest form.

Its natural trace minerals—including magnesium, calcium, potassium, copper, and iron—give it its distinctive pink hue. We add a small amount to SThorn for the smooth, mineral finish it brings to the drink. We won’t claim it transforms your metabolism or hormones from a 250 ml can, because the evidence doesn’t support that. We chose it for a simpler reason: nothing else delivers the same clean, mineral character shaped by millions of years of geology.

5. Raw sugar: the one ingredient we’re proudest to say less about

Let’s be clear: Raw sugar (Khandsari sugar) isn’t nutritionally superior to refined white sugar. What matters isn’t the type of sugar; it’s how much.

Ours is grown organically in Uttarakhand by farmers we work with directly, from the sugarcane in the field through to the processing itself, start to finish, alongside them. Not the cheapest way to sweeten a drink, but the only way we could trace it back to a field and a person.

SThorn contains just 6.25% raw sugar and 0.86g is actual added sugar per 100ml, compared to the 30-35% commonly found in many drinks in this category. That’s not a small difference; it’s the point. And it’s right there on the label.

Sthorn’s figures above aren’t just our own arithmetic. They’ve been independently verified by a third-party lab, and the full report is published in “Inside a Can of Sthorn.

A note on the numbers: Values shown are from the batch tested at printing and may vary slightly, since real fruit and minimally processed sugar aren’t identical batch to batch.

6. Carbonated Water: the ingredient that makes it fizzy and sparkling

Every ingredient on this list has a story, but this one has a job: carry the other five and give SThorn its fizz. It’s simply filtered water, carbonated for fizz, nothing more. Without it, this would be a juice, not a sparkling drink, and “sparkling” was never optional for us. Plain carbonated water isn’t harmful, and it hydrates just as effectively as still water, so there’s nothing special to claim here beyond doing exactly the job it’s there for.

From Our Farms to Your Can: Why We Don’t Just Source, We Own It

Map of India marking Sthorn's own farms and partners: wild sea buckthorn from Ladakh, organic amla and lemon from Rajasthan, and organic sugarcane from Uttarakhand.

Anyone can print “Himalayan” on a label. Anyone can write “Ladakh” under a photo of a mountain, especially on launch day, when the temptation to oversell is highest. That has never been the hard part. The hard part is actually being there, and it’s a part the Sea Buckthorn category has quietly struggled with for years: plenty of products claiming a Ladakh origin are processed from berries grown in an entirely different climate, hundreds of kilometres away, with no way for the person holding the bottle to ever check. (Ladakh Herbs)

We’re not interested in joining that pattern, and we didn’t build our launch on a story we couldn’t stand behind. Our Sea Buckthorn is grown wild and processed through our own facilities in Ladakh.

Workers hand-harvesting and sorting sea buckthorn berries at Sthorn's own processing facility in Ladakh, with mountains in the background.

Our organic Amla and our  Lemon are both grown and processed on our own farms in Rajasthan, India. Not a supplier’s farm. Not a trader’s warehouse. Ours, from the soil the fruit grew into the moment it was sealed into the very first can rolling off the line.

Even the sugar has an address. Our raw Khandsari sugar comes from Uttarakhand, where we work directly with organic farmers, from the sugarcane in the field through to the processing itself, start to finish, alongside them. And our Himalayan pink salt is hand-mined from the mountains of sindh, reaching us in its purest form.

Five ingredients. Four places we can name, and stand in. When we say this drink is inspired by nature, we mean we built the operation to stand inside that nature, years before we ever wrote a word of this launch.

There’s a human side to this too, one that existed long before SThorn did. Turning wild Sea Buckthorn into juices and pulp has become genuine, dependable income for families across Ladakh, in a region where other work is scarce and the winters are long. (The Better India) Owning our own farms and processing units means we’re not a passing customer arriving for a launch moment. We’re part of that story, season after season, before and after this can hit shelves.

What We Left Out Matters Just As Much

Sthorn Sparkling Berry label graphic listing what's not in the can: no caffeine, no taurine, no artificial colours, no artificial flavours, no preservatives, with a 12-month shelf life badge.

The hardest part of building SThorn wasn’t deciding what to add. It was having the discipline to leave things out. What’s not present in SThorn that makes it a truly health fizzy drink:

Every ingredient in this can is natural and organic.

This wasn’t a compromise, it was the brief from day one. Before the first can was made, we committed to building a drink using only real ingredients and refusing the shortcuts that would have made the job easier.

No Preservatives. No Short Shelf Life.

One assumption we wanted to challenge was that “no preservatives” must mean “short shelf life.”

It doesn’t.

SThorn has a 12-month shelf life, achieved through thoughtful formulation and careful processing, not by relying on preservatives. Freshness and honesty can coexist, and we built the drink to prove it.

Most brands hide this list in the fine print. For us, it’s the headline. Because a can with nothing to hide doesn’t need disclaimers, it just needs to tell the truth.

Why Fizzy and Sparkling, Why Not Just a Juice

Let’s clear something up first: the fizz was never the enemy. Plain carbonated water is not harmful, and it hydrates just as effectively as still water. (Cleveland Clinic) What has always done the damage in sodas is what gets dissolved into that fizz afterward: heavy sugar, artificial sweeteners, synthetic flavour built in a lab rather than grown in a field.

Ladakh already has excellent Sea Buckthorn juices and squashes, made by people who understand the fruit better than we ever will. We had no interest in launching another one. We wanted the ritual you already know, the crack of a can, cold against your hand, without everything that ritual has quietly cost you until now.

SThorn comes in a single 250ml can, built to be opened cold, straight from the fridge, nothing else required.

Each can carries:

These are the numbers we’re glad to put directly on the label instead of burying them where you’d need a magnifying glass to find them.

We’re launching with one size and one flavour, and that’s deliberate, not a limitation. It is far harder to get one thing exactly right than to spread the same idea thin across a shelf of variants nobody asked for. This is our first can. Everything SThorn becomes after this launch will be built on whatever this one earns.

Every Brand Gets One First Can. This Is Ours.

SThornHYPERLINK “https://sthorn.in/”launches on August 10: Sea Buckthorn grown and processed on our own farms in Ladakh, organic amla grown and processed on our own farm in Rajasthan, India, lemon, Himalayan pink salt, and a fraction of the sugar you’ve been drinking without question, all of it carbonated and sealed into a single can with nothing to hide. No caffeine. No taurine. No preservatives. Nothing borrowed, nothing hidden.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is SThorn an energy drink?

No. SThorn is a sparkling berry drink, not an energy drink. It contains no caffeine and no taurine, and we make no energy-boosting or medical claims. It’s built to be a healthy fizzy drink you reach for often, not a stimulant you depend on.

What’s actually in a can of SThorn?

Six ingredients, nothing more: Sea Buckthorn berry, Indian gooseberry (amla), lemon, Himalayan pink salt, raw sugar and carbonated water. All six are natural and organic, with nothing artificial added anywhere in the formula.

Do you actually grow these ingredients yourselves?

Yes. Our Sea Buckthorn is grown wild and processed through our own facilities in Ladakh, and our organic amla and lemon is grown and processed on our own farm in Rajasthan, India. Our raw sugar is grown organically in Uttrakhand, and our pink himalayan salt is hand mined from Sindh.

How much sugar does SThorn have?

Just 6.25% raw sugar per 100 ml, against the 30 to 35% typically found in drinks in this category. That’s a difference you can verify against any label you already own. (Sthorn is made with real fruit and minimally processed sugar, so exact sugar content can shift slightly from batch to batch.)

What does SThorn taste like?

Expect a tart, citrus-forward flavour led by Sea Buckthorn and amla, brightened by lemon, rounded out by a touch of sweetness and a mineral edge from the pink salt, all lifted by the carbonation.

Does SThorn really last 12 months without preservatives?

Yes. That shelf life comes from natural ingredients and careful formulation, not from added preservatives.

Is this the only SThorn flavour available at launch?

Yes. Sparkling Berry is our first variant, launched deliberately alone so we could get one thing right before building anything else.

Where can I buy SThorn, and when?

Mark the date. Sthorn arrives August 10 on our own website and across e-commerce and quick commerce platforms.
